COMMUNITY IN COFFEE

Zen Coffee Company is a Family Owned, Green Certified Specialty Coffee Company that originated in Omaha, NE.  Our Flagship location in Downtown Omaha/ Farnam Hill opened in 2017.  Following the pandemic, we expanded to West Omaha Tiffany Plaza (2021) in order to reach our "work from home" customers.  Our first drive thru location opened in One Pacific Place in late 2022.  In Summer 2024, we expanded into Downtown Lincoln, NE with our largest location. 

​We at Zen enjoy creating a unique place that customers can experience, while also providing many drink options so that everyone is included! a portion of our profits goes directly back to our community in need.

THE People Behind Zen

Abby and Ryan McLeay were born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska and love to support their roots and community, while also continuing to research and introduce new products and methods to the Midwest area.  

After a decade in corporate coffee, Abby set out to strengthen the local coffee community with a focus on sustainability and . Ryan, leveraging his business and construction expertise, collaborated to create a tranquil, eco-friendly space centered on wellness. Over the past nine years, their business and family have grown, and their children now work alongside them in the shop, making Zen a true family-owned business. They are grateful for the vibrant Zen community and the ongoing support they've received.

Abby and Ryan remain committed to integrating strong  training and values into Zen's daily operations, fostering ongoing education and development for their team. In 2020, they launched a coffee and pastry program and invested in building a fully sustainable, versatile kitchen within their space. They continue to lead Zen’s training initiatives across Nebraska, overseeing operations, organizing community events, and advocating for environmentally conscious practices.

ABOUT OUR COFFEE

Our coffee is roasted by Dapper & Wise.  The roastery originated from Insomnia Coffee Company-located in Hillsboro,OR. Our roasters take  great care in selecting quality sourced beans while working with farmers  to perfect each bean so that each cup is equally as exquisite as the last! 
​We choose to do Coffee differently by partnering with and serving the best roasted coffee in the most ethical way.  By sharing these same values, love for community and interest towards a balanced, sustainable vision in our coffee industry,  Zen has successfully been able to bring delicious, responsibly sourced coffee to the Midwest; while offering our community elaborate coffee education, opportunities to meet it's producers and an ability to learn in a non pretentious and welcoming specialty coffee atmosphere.

GREEN BUSINESS

Zen is able to be Waste Free with the support of Hillside Solutions.  We ensure the support of ethical business practices and awareness that starts at the source of our coffee- the farmers, the importers, the roasters... all the way down the chain to our baristas and customers. All of our pastries and baked goods are now made in house to ensure quality, freshness and sustainable practices.  We only serve items with in house tableware and biodegradable cutlery and boxes when taking items "to go."  All of our food, grounds, straws, tea satchets, paper products are composted or recycled in house.  We continue to improve these efforts while encouraging neighboring businesses, schools and neighborhoods to do the same.
